We want you to move forward to a positive future. Our mediation fees include unlimited emails and calls before, during and after mediation.
In divorce mediation, our skilled mediators help couples target disputed issues and develop options to reach a settlement. At Derr & Villarreal, we take a thoughtful approach. We’ll make sure that you have the information you need. This allows couples to maximize financial settlements and save both time and money. You can also discuss and agree on issues that wouldn’t have been addressed in a court trial.
Pro Se is latin which means “for oneself.” You are literally doing everything alone without benefit of attorneys. But many divorce decisions are final. Without professional help, what good is it to get a refund of $200 after you have made a mistake that cost you thousands?
Trust your future to a firm whose members have been the President of the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Association of Mediators (Lisa Derr) and the chair of the Wisconsin State Bar Family Law Section (Cassel Villarreal.) You won’t regret it.
Mediation is a fixed fee process over a number of sessions. Parties will review the issues that need to be addressed to reach a divorce settlement. With excellent staff as well as financial and tax software, parties can maximize their financial settlement as well as other common goals.
Between sessions, all calls and emails to the mediator are unlimited and included in the fixed fee. This helps people sort through and clarify their issues without worrying about significant and increasing legal fees. In sessions, we’ll help you work out your differences to find common ground. We’ll draft your agreement during the session. That agreement covers all issues such as child custody and placement schedules, the amount of child support, whether spousal maintenance will be paid by one party to the other, for how long, and at what amount, dividing all property, as well as responsibility for debts and tax issues. The mediator will also clarify the basic requirements for an uncontested divorce hearing.
Lisa Derr has practiced family law since 1987. In 1995, she began mediating after seeing that trials were not only ineffective, they even increased conflict. In the mediation process, Lisa approaches your situation with empathy and objectivity. She will listen and help you understand your options so that you can make informed decisions.
Cassel Villarreal received her law degree from DePaul College of Law with honors, in 2001. She has always remained calm even in the middle of a crisis. Cassel helps couples “step back” to see the situation more clearly. Divorce is hard no matter what. But Cassel helps ease the strain that divorce can take on your financial and emotional well-being. By listening and asking thoughtful questions, she helps couples reach a unique agreement.
